We had an established relationship with Tim Rainey, having created brand assets for his firm Rainey Law, so he immediately thought of us when it came time to bring another brand to life: Tim Rainey Barrister. While the brief was straightforward, it came with an extra dimension of challenge – Tim is a lover of good typography, so he wanted a brand expression that indulged his love of a great font.
As with many of our branding projects, we began Tim’s project by formulating a comprehensive Brand Chemistry document. It covered the scope of the new brand, objectives for the visual identity, Tim’s approach to his work and aspects of brand character. The analytical nature of the process was compatible with Tim’s legally-trained mind, so we were happy to include him in our brand workshop sessions.
Leaving a mainstream law firm to become a specialist barrister is a major step into the future for Tim Rainey, and now he has a brand and website that will make that step an easier one. While our designers paid heed to the formality and traditions associated with barrister work, they also had fun indulging Tim’s love of typography. Unexpected splashes of colour that appear as you mouse over each speciality on the home page are a flash of brilliance that received Tim’s stamp of approval.
